Retinitis Pigmentosa
What is it?
Retinitis Pigmentosa is an inherited progressive, degenerative eye disease that affects the rods, which are photoreceptors in the peripheral retina. Retinitis Pigmentosa causes night blindness.
Current Treatment:
- There is no treatment for this disease at this time. Vitamin A (10,000 Units) is recommended to slow the progression of this disease.
Future Treatment:
- Gene splicing to remove the affected gene.
- Retinal pigment epithelial transplantation.
- Light-sensitive implantable retinal chip.
